Assemblies - 2012

6th January 2012 - We kick started the year with a quiz organized by the secondary teachers. There were three rounds in the quiz. The first one was news and current affairs presented by Mrs.Meena Sriram. She had scoured the week's newspapers for interesting questions like -

Which is currently the longest train ride in India and the fourth longest in the world?

Which famous Chennai building is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year?

The second and third rounds were with visual clues. There were word puzzles to solve and Google doodles to identify.

Students responded enthusiastically as did the teachers, raising their hands and jumping off the mats for a chance to be seen and answer the questions.

12th January 2012 - Pongal Celebrations - The Ayahs changed the entire look of the school for this assembly. There were elaborate kolams, thoranams and flowers around the quadrangle. The backdrop had contributions from all the staff.

The ceremonial pongal paanai was smeared with turmeric and anointed with kumkumam and chandanam. Milk and rice were put to boil as the students assembled for the programme.

Students of Classes 7, 8, and 9 presented a 'Pattimandram'. The topic of discussion - Are festivals being celebrated for cultural purposes or just to show off an individual's wealth?

Secondary school girls performed a 'Gummi' and Elementary students sang traditional songs.

The highlight of the show was the folk dance by our Primary moms.

At the end of the show, students waited eagerly for the pongal to boil over. There were many countdowns that had to be restarted again and again. The milk and rice did eventually boil over at 10.15 a.m. with shouts of 'Pongalo pongal' echoing around school.

We all enjoyed eating pongal and sugarcane later that morning.

20th January 2012 - Mrs. Saroj Rudra talked to the school about the qualities of a good leader. She explained each of the qualities with a story or anecdote pertaining to leaders of countries and industry.

The four nominees for School Pupil leader, Shrinidhi, Mokshaa, Avinnaash and Aditya Srikanth gave their pre-election speeches. They highlighted their own strengths as well as some ideas they had on how to make school a better place.

27th January 2012 - Election Day - Students were given instructions about the voting procedure. They then took turns to vote for their new SPL. Shrinidhi Madhusudan was elected as SPL for the year 2012 - 2013. - by Gayatri Sundar
