The school has a faculty of around 39 teaching staff with a student-teacher ratio of about 8:1. The team is headed by Ms.Kamini Sundaram and a team of coordinators for academics, activities and for each section. |
To conduct a Primary Teacher Training Course Abacus collaborated with the Indian Institute for Montessori Studies(IIMS), Bangalore. The course director was Dr. Rajendra K.Gupta and it was coordinated by Ms.Amukta Mahapatra. Duration : June to Dec 2002 Primary & Elementary teachers of Abacus and others outside took the course. |
| Abacus has always had the benefit of eminent visiting faculty from India and overseas. Ms.Natasia de Lange, a Montessori teacher from Holland was instrumental in helping us incorporate mixed age and ability groups at primary levels. |  |

| Over the years, Our teachers held workshops at Bangalore to help extend the Montessori method to older children. Some were invited by an NGO in Karnataka to help extend the Montessori method to panchayat schools. A library workshop was held last year for neighbouring schools.
Abacus convened in Oct' 1989 a national conference to celebrate 50 years of Montessori in India. It was the venue of the first conference in Chennai. |

The ongoing and professional training of our teachers has been a major priority ever since the school began. At present Ms.Gayathri Sriram M.A.English Literature., M. Ed., is conducting an inhouse training program "Creating the optimal classroom environment" for the Elementary and Secondary teachers over 6 months.
